Personal Career Management | Planning An Executive Or Professional Career

How To Revolutionise Your Own Career:
The EPR Strategic Approach

In all probability, your current career management approach is limiting your satisfaction and future by surrendering far too much control to external forces. The EPR Strategic Approach puts career control in your hands, meaning that you can negotiate and advance your goals   on your terms.

The Strategic Approach provides a career management and advancement process that reverses Career Atrophy and avoids the debilitating impact on confidence and morale that causes so many executives and professionals to settle for second best. The result is not only a far more satisfying career but one that delivers greater benefit to your employer.

In its simplest form, the Strategic Approach consists of the following eight-step process:

  1. Perform the equivalent of a SWOT Analysis on yourself. What are your strengths, weaknesses and opportunities? What do you need to gain true job satisfaction?
  2. Clarify your Value Proposition, so you understand the unique executive skills that make you an asset for an organisation.
  3. Set your goals and develop your market positioning based on them and on your value proposition.
  4. Develop your plan and an appropriate timeline for the attainment of your goals.
  5. Develop, refine and maintain your communication skills so that you can clearly articulate your value proposition to contacts you make, both formally and informally. This gives you power and confidence at the negotiating table.
  6. Research, research, research. Discover as much as possible about organisations and people that may have opportunities for you, until you understand exactly what they can offer you and how your skills are of benefit to them.
  7. Expand your 'sphere of influence'. Keep in regular touch with your contacts and implement a specific program to develop new ones. This opens up opportunities and establishes a relationship with decision makers before positions become vacant. In fact, it often leads to positions being created where they previously didn't exist.
  8. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat. Perform this process regularly throughout your career. Over time, career prospects will repeatedly open up for you.

The 8 steps above are a great place to start designing a career that delivers all of your goals, and there is NO reason why you can't start these steps RIGHT NOW, on your own. Get a pen and piece of paper and start writing a marketing report ... on yourself.
